Berenblum Busch Architects has designed the transformation of piers 11 and 12 in Puerta de Tierra, converting a dormant industrial site into a high-capacity cruise terminal complex for San Juan. Developed by San Juan Cruise Port (SJCP), this $200 million waterfront initiative establishes an architectural benchmark for the harbor while serving as both critical maritime infrastructure and a lasting civic asset. The design balances operational efficiency with public access, incorporating high-capacity passenger boarding bridges, streamlined ground transportation, and discrete logistics separated from the public realm. On non-ship days, a dedicated roof terrace and accessible waterfront promenades open the facility to the community, connecting historic San Juan with a biophilic, solar-adaptive architectural destination.
