Wynwood’s MDC Offices and Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce 2020 Sep
We are excited to announce that the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the long-awaited Wynwood project took place on September 15th. The new center will be a much-needed social hub for the Puerto Rican community, offering art and adult classes and after-school activities for children. The building will also accommodate offices on the upper floors for the County and District 5 Commissioner.
The building draws inspiration from the industrial nature of the neighborhood and the mostly one-story warehouses that defined the character of Wynwood years ago, along with the street art (murals) that have become a tourist destination.
In keeping with the neighborhood and to diminish the building mass, each level is treated differently, breaking the uniformity of the facade along 29th Street. To further engage with the neighborhood, a painted mural by a Puerto Rican artist wraps around the building. It extends to the sidewalk and underside of upper floor slabs. The façade treatment of the upper floors is governed by the rhythmic repetition of vertical fins that recall industrial building architecture of the 20th century.
